Meditations on Isaiah 46:4

“Even in your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Isaiah 46:4 (NIV)

Living Lord, maker and sustainer of all, we cry out to you again. Lord, have mercy and Lord, hear our prayer.

I have made you and I will carry you.

Living Word, you who spoke into the darkness and created the heavens and the earth: flesh, bone, sea, sky, breath, cosmos, atoms, dust.

I have made you and I will carry you.

Living Lord, you hold it all and you hold our lives: our sorrow and grief, joy and peace, doubt and anxiety. In the seasons of plenty and poverty, in the discord and the unravelling. In the shadowy and sun-swept places, daybreak, nightfall, when all is grace and when we’ve reached a dead-end. Creator God, you never let go, you never let go, you never let go.

I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Living Word, speak into the darkness again. Bring order to all that is in disarray and calm our fears.

I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
